Our Story

Why OMG had to exist

OMG Rides & Bites was born in Dunedin, New Zealand from a simple observation: the transport and delivery options available were not designed for New Zealand drivers, riders paying surge fares under a monopoly, or local restaurants.

This is the story of why we built something different—and why OMG was required.

The OMG team

The problem

Four reasons OMG was required

Drivers were losing too much

Major ride platforms take 25%–30% of every fare. For airport runs, school trips, and everyday Flex rides, that commission was eating into what drivers actually earned.

Riders were paying more than they should

With few alternatives and a near-monopoly on ride-hailing, riders faced unpredictable surge pricing—paying sharply higher fares at peak times with little choice and no transparent, local alternative.

Local communities were underserved

Families in Dunedin and across New Zealand needed reliable airport transfers and school transport—not just peak-hour city rides. Existing apps were built for big markets, not everyday local needs.

Restaurants needed a fairer path

Local eateries wanted to reach customers through delivery without handing over large cuts on every order. They needed a platform that worked with them, not against them.

Our journey

From frustration to a platform built for NZ

Where it started

A gap we kept seeing in Dunedin

We watched drivers work long hours only to hand a quarter or more of each fare to a platform they did not choose. Riders were losing money too—surge pricing on a near-monopoly meant paying far more when they needed a ride most, with no fair local option to turn to. Restaurants wanted delivery without losing margin on every meal.

The same pattern kept repeating: global apps optimised for volume, commission, and market control, while New Zealand drivers, riders, families, and local businesses needed something built for how people actually move and eat here.

Why OMG was required

New Zealand deserved its own platform

OMG was not built to copy overseas giants. It was required because no existing option put Kiwi drivers first, gave riders an escape from surge pricing and monopoly pricing, respected NZ licensing and compliance, and combined rides with local food delivery in one place.

We needed a model where drivers keep 100% of the fare on completed trips—supported by a simple subscription instead of per-trip commission. Riders needed clear, upfront pricing without surprise surges. Restaurants needed a partner who understood Dunedin and beyond.

What we built

Rides & Bites, one app, built for NZ

OMG Rides & Bites brings together airport transfers, school transport, Flex rides, and OMG Bites food delivery. Drivers can choose passenger work, delivery, or both. Everything runs through one app with clear fares, verified drivers, and support from OMG SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS LIMITED.

Today we operate from Dunedin, New Zealand, growing with the drivers, riders, and restaurants who told us the old way was not working—and that something local, fair, and purpose-built was long overdue.

Drivers keep 100% of the fare. Earn more—no 25%–30% platform commission.”

That is the promise OMG was built to keep.
